AP World History Final Essay Question:

Compare the Yuan Dynasty in China with the Muslim Dynasties in India.  Compare and contrast the ways in which the Mongols influenced China and the Muslims influenced India politically, economically (trade and anything having to do with money) and socially (customs, architecture, culture, art, food, etc).

Below are some webpages that may help you with this essay.  Read through them and brainstorm for this essay.  As always, a chart is helpful.  Something like this would be excellent.

India

The obvious difference between Mongols rule in China and Muslim rule in India is the length of time the foreign conquerors ruled.  Unlike the Yuan, Muslims ruled India forhundreds of years.  First during the slave Delhi Sultanate era and then under Tamerlane the Turkish Muslim Mongol and then under the Moghal Empire.   Please focus on the Delhi Sultanate the Tamerlane in this essay.  Leave the Moghals (who we haven’t studied) out of the essay.

Delhi Sultanate

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_empires_in_India describes the entrance of Islam and general changes and is good to get notes from.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delhi_Sultanate - is specifically about the Delhi Suntanate and has some repetition from the first site but also has a bit of new useful information

http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/india/history/delhi.htm - really brief but a it useful

Tamerlane (also called Timor and Timor the Lame)
